Chyi Yu even in her late 60s, maintains her angelic voice and sings continuously for a nearly 2 hours concert during her recent concert in April 2025 in Malaysia. Her choices of songs during the concert is a mixture of English songs and her popular songs. The most enduring of all is Olive Tree, also the song that propelled Chyi Yu’s career, which she sang at the end of her concert.
I am a little surprised that she is well-versed in English as her pronunciation is impeccable and she obviously enjoys singing these English oldies. Her choice of apparel in white & pastel colour emphasises her ethereal voice.
Near the end of her concert, she sang a familiar song 船歌 Chuan Ge or literally translated as Boat Song. The song is actually a theme song to a movie 八兩金 Ba Liang Jin (Eight Taels Gold), starring a very young-looking Sammo Hung and Sylvia Chang. The drum used as the background music brings about a nostalgic feel to the song. Although simple and just a short verse, the song carries through a traditional feel about it.
